Observer. A Modern History of the St. Petersburg Rock Scene: From [AMATORY] to 'Pilot'

The author wrote during the peak and final formation of the fourth wave of Russian rock, a theme that was actively covered in the media. His twenty-year career in journalism allowed him to create a large-scale portrait of this period. He helped gain a deep understanding of 14 bands, their music, and personal changes with which he interacted in the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. He closely tracked their journey from the first musical surge to legendary status, as well as their fates over these 20 years. In his work, the author addresses topics about music clubs, albums, concerts, and iconic festivals. He draws a general picture through the private, examining the music scene of St. Petersburg through the lens of his work as a music journalist. The writing of this work should not be understood as stories of individual bands, but as a slice of the history of musical St. Petersburg. The author did not seek to create an encyclopedia; his work is more an atmosphere, reinforced by context and documents.
