In the 1920s, the richest people on Earth lived in the state of Oklahoma — and they were the Osage tribe. Resettled by the U.S. government to these barren lands, by the early 20th century, the Osage discovered themselves to... be owners of unprecedented wealth — oil, for which industrialists and workers from all over the country flocked to them. Suddenly wealthy, the Indians began to lead a luxurious lifestyle and hire white servants — which greatly outraged the local press. Soon, the Osage were being brutally murdered, poisoned, and shot in entire families. The wealth of the Indians began to pass to their guardians or spouses — always among the whites... As the number of victims grew and the Osage's attempts to conduct their own investigation failed, the FBI, which was just starting out at the time, became involved in the case. The young bureau director J. Edgar Hoover turns to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White for help. Gathering a team of agents, including some from among the Indians, White begins to uncover one of the bloodiest conspiracies in American history.
