«Heart of Darkness» is a novella by Polish-English writer Joseph Conrad, recognized as a master of adventure and sea novels. This work was first published in its entirety in 1902. At the time when «Heart of Darkness» was written, many... authors idealized English colonialism. However, Conrad had a dual attitude towards this phenomenon. Of course, he respected English order, but at the same time sympathized with the local population of the colonies. It is these contradictions that are reflected in «Heart of Darkness», which was written under the influence of a journey to the Congo Free State.
