Faust. Tragedy = Faust. A Tragedy

The medieval alchemist and black magician Dr. Faust sold his soul to the devil in pursuit of knowledge and pleasure – this is the plot of a German legend that Goethe based his tragedy Faust on. His tragedy is about the power of the human spirit, the desire to comprehend the mysteries of the universe, the mistakes on the path of life, doubts, and unceasing searches despite all difficulties. Goethe created a multifaceted work, intertwining Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Modern times, clashing various views on man's place in the world, debating the development of art, and raising philosophical and religious questions, so everyone will find something of interest in Faust.
