The book includes selected works of the commander and statesman Napoleon Bonaparte, dedicated to the military campaign on the Italian Peninsula and the expedition to Egypt. Napoleon, appointed commander of the Italian army, provides a detailed and comprehensive account of the troops' advance, the main battles of the campaign, including the battles at Arcole, where he demonstrated personal heroism, and the Battle of Rivoli, as well as the diplomatic negotiations and the conclusion of peace with Austria. This edition also includes a description of the expedition to Egypt and Syria in 1798–1799, which began with the triumphant capture of Malta and Alexandria, the Battles of the Pyramids, and the defeat of the Mamluk forces, culminating in the destruction of the French Republic's fleet in the Battle of Abukir. In addition, the book includes essays on military events from 1798 and 1799, in which the author, not without admiration, writes about the successes of the Russian army under the command of General A.V. Suvorov, as well as excerpts from other works of Napoleon.
