Great empires often collapse under their own weight, mired in feuds. Even though no enemy can crush their army, the court intrigues and struggles for power destroy everything much faster. This happened to the Star Alliance, which united many planets across the Galaxy. blinded by prospects and pride, scientists began to tear apart the fabric of the universe, creating wormholes to new worlds – and provoked the Collapse, the greatest catastrophe in the history of the empire.
The Alliance planets found themselves cut off from each other, and when the survivors began to restore technology and met face to face, they had already forgotten about their long-lost unity. Each faction considers itself the true successor of the Star Alliance and is ready to destroy the other peoples for power over its fragments.
About the Game
Age of Wonders: Planetfall is the tabletop version of the computer strategy from Paradox studio. In this card game, you will become the leader of one of six factions that split from the fallen empire. Maybe it will be your faction that will unite the Star Alliance under its wise leadership, crushing the competitors, but this is yet to be proven. Visit the former planets of the Alliance, restore lost technologies, and capture strongholds. Achieving dominance over space will not be easy!
How to Play?
The rules of Age of Wonders are quite easy to learn, but due to numerous strategic combinations, you are unlikely to find it too easy to play after a few games. The gameplay creates a high level of competition among players, and the slightest tactical mistake can lead you to defeat. In preparing for the game, players determine the order of turns using initiative tokens – the one with the lower value on it goes first.
During the game, you will need to explore 7 planets of the Star Alliance, dedicating one round to exploring each. During each round, you can conduct reconnaissance, gain income, conduct two researches, and then move to a new planet. In the course of research, you can fight, capture strongholds, study technologies, search for caches, or conduct operations. By the way, you don't have to fight every encountered squad on a new planet – some can be negotiated with and brought to your side!
Who Won?
After the fourth phase of the seventh round, when you explore the last planet for the second time, the game ends, and players count their victory points. Victory points are awarded for fulfilling conditions from your tablets, as well as from some technology cards.
The one who scores the most points will win, and if the contenders score the same amount – then the one whose ship is higher on the turn track.
