The novels from the cycle «Sons of the Great Bear» by Liselotte Welskopf-Henrich stand alongside the adventure books about the Native Americans of North America by Fenimore Cooper and Mayne Reid. The works of the German writer have become classics...
of youth literature, being reprinted numerous times, translated into dozens of languages, and adapted for film. The cycle began with the eponymous novel, which was published in 1951, and its author was awarded a prestigious literary prize. In the following years, Welskopf-Henrich continued to work on the book and significantly expanded it. The first complete edition was published in three volumes in the early 1960s (subsequently, the cycle was also released as a six-volume set). For her active support of North American Indians, the tribal alliance of the Ogallala awarded the writer the honorary title of Lakota-Tashina, Defender of the Lakota.
Readers are presented with the concluding volume of the trilogy «Tokei Ito», which centers on the fate and deeds of the young chief of the Sons of the Great Bear and the dramatically eventful life of the Indians against the backdrop of their courageous struggle for their ancestral lands and freedom. The novel is presented in a new complete translation by Vera Akhtyrskaya (previously, «Sons of the Great Bear» was published in Russian in a shortened form); the book also includes beautiful illustrations by Pavel Paramonov.
