The Bookstore on the Left Bank of the Seine

Paris, 1919. Young Sylvia Beach opens the bookstore "Shakespeare and Company" on the bohemian Left Bank of the Seine. She does not yet know that she is making history. Many leading writers of the Lost Generation will consider this store... their second home.

Sylvia is swept away by a whirlwind of new acquaintances, the literary life in Paris is boiling and sparkling. Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Ezra Pound – all of them were not yet the esteemed classics in those years, but daring ambitious people with complex characters. Sylvia's bookstore becomes a center of attraction for them, but collisions are inevitable. Disappointments and betrayals will not make one wait long, the roaring twenties with their reckless parties will pass, but the doors of "Shakespeare and Company" will remain open for all who cannot imagine their lives without books.
