Board Game - Slay the Spire. Slay the Spire (Collector's Edition)
General idea of the game:
Slay the Spire — a cooperative deck-building roguelike board game for 1–4 players.
Players choose one of the heroes and start with a basic deck of cards....
During the game, the deck can be improved, expanded, or cleansed.
As in the original video game, the goal is to «climb» the Spire: passing floors, fighting monsters, elites, bosses, encountering events, finding relics and items.
In the board game version, you can play solo or cooperatively.
Characters:
Four characters are available, each with a unique style, starting deck, and features:
Ironclad — a fighter with a high health pool; well-suited for strength enhancement effects and Exhaust effect cards.
Silent — specializes in poisons, quick attacks, tricks, and deck manipulation.
Defect — uses Orbs (electricity, ice, darkness, etc.), enhances orbs, and combines their abilities.
Watcher — works with states (prayers, wrath, calmness, etc.), uses special cards and state change mechanics.
Choosing a character determines the starting deck and play style.
Game structure and board
The game is divided into Acts. One act — a series of floors of the Spire.
The board (Map Board) features rooms/floors: after each room, players choose a path — fighting enemies, an elite, a boss, resting, shopping, a chest, or an event.
Types of rooms/encounters:
enemies (regular battles)
elites — strong enemies with better rewards
bosses — at the end of the act
events — random encounters with choices
rest/camp — restoring health or improving cards
trader/store — buying cards, relics, potions, removing cards from the deck, etc.
At the start of the act, the map is laid out, and tokens are placed. The boss card is placed face down — it will open when players reach the final room.
Decks, cards, and items
Each player starts with a basic deck — basic attacks, defenses, skills.
Upon defeating an enemy or choosing a reward, the player can add a new card to the deck.
Relics are available — passive bonuses; potions — one-time effects; items and other effect cards.
Cards can be upgraded; sometimes realized through double-sided cards — making it vital to have sleeves.
Players need to balance: too many weak cards or «curses» weaken the deck. They need to choose which cards to keep and which to remove.
Fights and mechanics
When entering a room with enemies, combat begins. Players are assigned «rows» on the board — their miniatures and enemies stand in them; elites and bosses can activate all players simultaneously.
At the start of a turn, a player draws a new hand of cards and receives 3 energy units. For energy, players can play cards: attacks, defenses, skills, abilities — as long as there is energy.
Enemies predict (telegraph) their actions in advance: damage, block, buff/debuff. The player must act based on these predictions — defend, deal damage, use abilities.
If any player's health (HP) drops to zero — the party is considered lost.
After defeating enemies — rewards are given: gold, a card of choice, a chance to receive a relic, potions, etc.
The game has Exhaust mechanics, status cards, debuffs — which affect strategy, requiring planning and a thoughtful approach.
Dices and tokens are used to track effects, states, resources — replacing the automatic calculations of the video game.
Victory and defeat
The game goes through acts. After completing an act, players either finish the run or continue — starting a new act, keeping their decks and progress.
Victory is achieved if the group defeats the final boss after past acts.
Defeat occurs if any player loses all health. Then the party is lost.
