Your Honor

The novel of the outstanding Catalan writer Jaume Cabré "Your Honor" (1991) was created long before his famous "I confess". But even then, the writer was concerned with the theme of the powerful, judicial corruption, and absolute power, for which... there exists only the law of the strong.
Winter of 1799. In Barcelona, the rains do not stop, the city seems paralyzed, and yet, high society is in full swing. It seems that the aristocrats are only concerned with how to celebrate the arrival of the new nineteenth century. In the cathedral, they perform the Te Deum, while in the luxurious halls, a series of social receptions unfold... But the festive atmosphere is overshadowed by the strange murder of a French singer. A young poet, who happened to be "in the wrong place at the wrong time," is arrested. He is unequivocally found guilty, especially since documents were discovered that could lead to the downfall of "your honor" - Don Rafael Masso, the chairman of the Supreme Court. It is known that this man, endowed with the power to condemn or spare, has one weakness: he adores beautiful women. So what will prevail: justice or power, the executioner or the victim, "I didn't kill her!" from one or "I didn't want this" from another?..
