Young Travelers

Jules Verne 1828–1905 — a French writer, a classic of adventure literature, one of the founders of the science fiction genre. Verne was born and raised in Nantes. After moving to Paris, at his parents' insistence, he continued the family tradition — studied law and obtained a degree as a lawyer. Here he began to publish plays and devoted most of his time to writing books. Soon, this talented author attracted the attention of publishers, and he was contracted to write two novels each year for 20 years. Verne's numerous adventure novels enjoyed immense popularity. In one of his letters, he lamented: I have lost myself among the incredible adventures of my heroes. I regret only one thing: I cannot accompany them… The novel Young Travelers was published in 1903. Nine students of the Antilles School of London, who won a competition, will embark on a journey to the Antillean Islands aboard the ship Resplendent, together with their mentor. Just before departure, the ship was captured by pirates who had escaped from custody. The travelers who boarded the ship are unaware that they have fallen into the hands of a criminal gang…
