Heretical Thoughts on the Nature of Mathematics

The book "Heretical Thoughts on the Nature of Mathematics" is a collection of articles by philosophers, cognitive scientists, sociologists, computer scientists, and even mathematicians, who have expressed original, provocative ideas about mathematics. There is no common program or ideology in these essays.

The requirements for the articles were as follows: Nothing boring! Nothing banal, nothing trivial! Each essay challenges, provokes thought, and is original. In recent years, newcomers – linguists, neurologists, cognitive scientists, computer scientists, sociologists – have been bringing new ideas by studying mathematics with new tools.

In previous centuries, old questions: "What is a person?", "What is Reason?", "What is language?" have transformed from philosophical questions available for reflection into scientific problems. Linguistics, psychology, and anthropology are separating from philosophy and becoming independent disciplines. Perhaps the question: "What is mathematics?" will soon be recognized as a scientific problem.
