Thoughts and Maxims of Napoleon Bonaparte

The book presented to the reader contains the sayings of Napoleon Bonaparte, recorded on the island of Saint Helena by a member of his entourage, Count Emmanuel-Auguste-Diédonné de Las Cases. There are a total of 469 such sayings. The translations of the emperor's sayings are provided in the order they are presented in the Paris edition, and prior to that in the English edition of 1820. Alongside the translation into Russian, the original text in French is also provided. In some cases, the published sayings are accompanied by necessary comments from historian S.N. Iskyul, which explain the historical context.

The sayings of Napoleon, concerning politics and the events that make up the framework of his rule and reign, as well as history, philosophy, and literature, provide insight into the worldview of this man and his outlook as a great statesman, military leader, and human being.
