Ivan Turgenev (1818 — 1883) — a Russian writer, one of the classics of Russian literature who made the most significant contribution to its development. The artistic system created by him influenced the poetics of not only the Russian, but also the Western European novel of the second half of the 19th century.
The story "Mumu" is based on real events that took place in the writer's mother's house. The janitor Gerasim, a man of heroic build, deaf-mute from birth, is diligent and conscientious at work. A difficult fate and the collapse of love did not embitter his heart. Gerasim saves a puppy that had fallen into the water, brings it home, and gives it the name Mumu (this is the word he can pronounce).
