Classical Persian Language: A Reading Texts Guide

The material presented in the book allows students to learn to read and translate monuments of Persian poetry and prose, as well as to acquire skills in philological analysis and text commentary. The reading guide consists of an introduction, 33 lessons, and appendices. Each lesson includes a main text (a fragment from poetry or prose of the 9th–15th centuries), supplemented with a lexical commentary, a grammatical topic, extensively illustrated with examples, one or two grammar exercises for the lesson, and an additional text with some "hints" intended for independent work. The appendices provide basic information about the meter and rhyme of Persian poetry and include paradigms of the meters of the verses found in the lesson texts.
For students studying programs related to the Persian language and literature of Iran who have already mastered the basics of modern Persian, as well as for Iranists whose specialization is related to the study of medieval written sources.
