The Swimming of Tevsier

The Trojan War is over, and Tevsier, the brother of Ajax, returns home. His father, learning that Ajax has died and that his surviving son has not avenged him, drives away the wayward son. Tevsier has no choice but to surrender to fate and set sail with his companions. However, even here he faces misfortune: the ship gets caught in a storm, and Tevsier is cast ashore.

Tevsier finds himself not on land but on a huge whale: on it stand cities inhabited by brave knights and beautiful ladies. He desires only one thing—to escape from the whale, but prophecies state that this will never happen. The hero, whose resourcefulness even Ulysses would envy, has to contend with fickle Fortune. The local nobility, amused by the captivating stories of adventures that took place during the Trojan War, do not want him to leave.
