The refuge at Godo has collapsed, leaving Guts with no choice but to take Casca to Elfheim, the land of the elves. But to do this, he needs to reach the port of Vritannis. He is aided in this endeavor by Farnese and Serpico, as well as the restless Isidro. The road leads through a mountain pass where trolls roam, and soon fate brings Guts and the others to the witch Flora. She asks to save the village of Enoch from devastation, and young witch Schierke joins Guts.

Having endured the horrors of the trolls' refuge, Guts and the others return to Flora, only to discover that Zodd and Grunbeld the Fire-Breathing Dragon have come for her soul.
