Ascetic Words. New Translation

This edition is a new translation from ancient Greek to Russian of the Ascetic Words of St. Isaac the Syrian. The book has a unique character.

First, the Words of St. Isaac are organized into thematic sections and constructed in the image of spiritual perfection - from action to contemplation (the composition of the text was done by the Athonite monk- hesychast Damaskin (Milis), a disciple of Elder Ephraim of Philotheou (Moraite)).

Secondly, thematic blocks include fragments that are absent in the Greek translation but are present in Syrian Orthodox manuscripts.

Thirdly, the book provides variations in the translation of some complex phrases and terms, which opens up for the reader previously inaccessible richness of meanings found in the wise sayings of St. Isaac. The book also includes quotes from the Church Fathers, with whom St. Isaac was of one mind on issues of asceticism (this essential detail was almost always absent in previous editions).
