Tales of Ancient Iran

Iranian tales and legends, born on the land of ancient Persia, – one of the sources of plots for storytellers around the world. They are reflected not only in the legendary collection "One Thousand and One Nights" or in Central Asian stories about Khoja Nasreddin but also in the works of European writers.
Thirty-five magical stories translated by A. A. Romaskevich, M. P. Blagoveshchenskaya, L. G. Lopatinsky, A. A. Tsaghareli, E. N. Tikhomirova, and others will allow one not only to immerse oneself in the realm of Iranian folklore but also to get acquainted with the traditions and culture of this great country.
The world of Iranian tales is filled with amazing creatures and events: treacherous shaytans, djinns, and ghouls reign here, a one-eyed monster defeats an entire army led by its general, the Old Man of the Mountain waits for tired travelers in the Valley of the Angel of Death, and the evil sorcerer Khirma tries to destroy the beautiful princess Zlatalipka.
The wonderful fairy-tale atmosphere is complemented by the works of Persian artists Riza Abbasi, Kemaleddin Behzad, Mihr Ali, Abul Hasan Ghaffari, Ibrahim Khadim Bayat, as well as luxurious Persian miniatures of the 16th–19th centuries and paintings by European masters.
