The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technical Reproducibility

The most famous essay by Walter Benjamin explores the transformation of artistic perception under the intrusion of technical innovations into the creative process, analyzing how new media have changed the understanding of uniqueness and authenticity of the work of art,... which becomes an object of mass consumption. Especially for this edition, the author of the classic translation of "The Work of Art" Sergey Romashko wrote a detailed article and accompanied it with a selection of texts by Benjamin, illustrating the intellectual path of the author to this work. Some of these texts are published in Russian for the first time ("The Medium…", "The Newspaper", "Reflections on Radio", "Response to the Article by Oskar Schmitz", "On Mickey Mouse").
