The Tale of the Kingdom of Sounds and Letters. A Speech Therapist's Coloring Workbook for Children Aged 6-9

When learning to read, many preschoolers face difficulties:
– confuse the concepts of «sound» and «letter»;
– do not distinguish when the same consonant letter is pronounced either hard or soft, while some consonants are always hard or always soft;
– do not... understand why in some cases a vowel letter (for example, Я) represents one sound [А], and in others — two [Й’А]; which vowel letters indicate the hardness of consonants and which indicate softness;
– cannot remember the principle by which the vowels of the first and second rows are divided, and pairs of consonants are formed.
 
The vagueness of these basic concepts can ultimately lead to persistent reading and writing errors and even to disorders such as dyslexia and dysgraphia.
 
The manual «The Tale of the Kingdom of Sounds and Letters» will help children understand and overcome these difficulties by developing the phonetic-phonemic side of speech, skills in sound-letter and syllable analysis, grammatical understanding, preventing reading and writing errors, activating thematic vocabulary, improving fine motor skills, and developing attention and memory. And to do this with pleasure, interest, and creativity — at a level accessible to them. For this purpose, the manual uses author's stories and rhymes, playful tasks, and pictures for coloring, which together will help children clarify and reinforce their understanding of letters and sounds, their classification, and differentiation.
The algorithm for working on each topic is structured as follows: first, the child becomes familiar with the tale, in which the grammatical «problem» and its resolution are presented in a figurative form, and at the end, a summary is provided in poetic or narrative form; then they color the illustrations for the story, and finally perform training game tasks.
