This collection of the outstanding playwright and prose writer Leonid Heinrichovich Zorin (1924-2020), dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his birth, includes plays, novellas, stories, and memories related to one of the central themes of his work - the relationship... between the artist and power or, more broadly, literature and politics. The book reflects the evolution of the writer's views on the freedom of creativity from the mid-20th century to the last years of his long creative path. Among the plays included are "The Copper Grandmother," "The Missing Plot," "The Climax," and others that Leonid Zorin considered his main works. The author also reflects on the dramatic relationships between the artist and power in the included fragments of his memoir novel "The Aven Scene," which tell about the complicated theatrical fate of many of his plays, as well as the remarkable directorial and acting works of A. Lobanov, G. Tovstonogov, O. Efremov, S. Yursky, R. Bykov, and others, who were not destined to reach the audience.
