The book consists of two parts:
In the first part, Anna Nikolaevna discusses the problems of speech, oral and written speech, living conversational speech, and contemporary speech, including contemporary speech on stage, the laws and rules of Russian speech, intonation, punctuation,...
and stress, monologue, interpretation of the author's text, and working with words. She analyzes examples from classic Russian literature, touching on the topic of authorial style (Pushkin, Tolstoy, etc.), revealing the secrets of a free and healthy voice, correct diction, and all this is viewed through the prism of Russian theater and stage speech. Therefore, the second part of the book consists of questionnaires.
What is it? Throughout her life, Anna Nikolaevna collected interviews with her colleagues—famous actors and directors—where she asked questions about words, stage speech, work on roles, work on classical works, laws of speech, and speech techniques. These are 22 questions about the word directed to the great masters of speech.
These questionnaires-interviews are unique: they "give voice" to both the already departed masters, Oleg Tabakov, Tovstonogov, Gluzsky, Zavadsky, Evstigneeva, Gribov, Knebel, Eugene Lebedev, Andrei Myagkov, Vyacheslav Nevinnny, S. Yursky, A. Efros, etc., and contemporary actors and directors, such as Mashkov, Mironov, Khabenksy, Alentova, Bogomolov, Golub, Nikita Mikhalkov, Pokrovskaya, Konstantin Raikin, and others. Almost every questionnaire is written by the hand of these masters, with their authorial signature. Each question posed by Anna Nikolaevna in these questionnaires intersects with a chapter in the theoretical part of the book, and thus the question about the word is answered not only by Anna Nikolaevna but also by the famous masters of the stage.
It is the people of the theater, following different paths, who have created a powerful practice of improving speech, revealing the secrets of a free voice and ways to restore it.
The discoveries of theater masters are important for Russian culture and should be publicly available for the everyday life of society.
