Ruth moves with her parents to Waitsfield, Massachusetts – a place that seems perfect. She is forced to endure the antics of her eccentric mother, drink powdered milk, and visit the dump while her wealthy peers live their best lives. As Ruth grows up, she learns about the unsightly side of the town – behind the beautiful facade lies lies, violence, and despair, sometimes leading to suicides. Waitsfield is actually a place where the American dream dies and the truth is born. But how can she escape?
