"Dark Paths" is an expansion for the board game "Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth". In it, heroes explore the... thickets of Mirkwood and the abandoned halls of Moria. The expansion adds a new branched campaign consisting of 13 adventures, as well as new tokens, terrain fragments, enemies, equipment, character and role cards, and new rules: corruption and difficult terrain. Evil is gaining strength, and the heroes' journeys in Middle-earth are becoming increasingly dangerous.

Before starting the game, update the digital app Journeys in Middle-earth and add the "Dark Paths" expansion to the used list in the "Collection" section of the app (press the green "Use" button). Before starting the "Dark Paths" adventure, add all the components of the expansion to the base game: put the corruption and difficult terrain tokens in the supply, and shuffle the cards into the corresponding decks. Set aside all terrain tokens (both from the base game and from the expansion) until the app indicates to add them.

"Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth" offers you a fully cooperative adventure in the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Players will take on the roles of well-known characters (Bilbo, Gimli, Aragorn, etc.) and define their roles - you can become a burglar, scout, leader, etc., where the role determines the character's abilities and function in the team.
In their adventure, the heroes will travel and explore the lands of Middle-earth, fight dangerous orcs, find ancient artifacts, get into incredible situations, and battle the darkness that spreads across the realms.

One of the original features of the game is a special electronic app that assists players at all stages of the game. The app generates the future adventure automatically, shows the map and its expansion options, defines the scenario's content and tasks, manages enemies, helps conduct battles and skill checks, as well as saves your campaign progress. The app saves a lot of time, makes the game scenarios as unique as possible, and each game incredibly exciting. The digital app Journeys in Middle-earth can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play store, Amazon Appstore, or Steam.

Each player chooses a character and a role for it, thus defining a set of skills and characteristics for the character. Players also receive starting equipment and a skill deck - your main tool for interacting with the game world.
The campaign consists of a series of games, each of which takes place on a unique board, has its own tasks and opponents you will face. To successfully complete the scenario, players must perform a series of tasks issued by the electronic app. The app also helps build the game board and guides you through the game. If players are defeated, the campaign does not end, but they lose the reward. Between scenarios, players can upgrade their equipment and skills.
The game consists of a series of rounds, which are divided into phases: player actions, Darkness actions, and the Gathering technical phase. On their turn, players can travel, explore terrain, attack enemies, and interact with various objects, including story-related ones.
In the Darkness actions phase, the app gives directions on where the enemy moves and what happens in the game world (for example, it may increase). The longer the game lasts, the more dangerous Middle-earth becomes. At certain points, ominous events occur, and if the threat scale is completely filled, players lose.
 

Since the game is cooperative, everyone shares the sweetness of victory and the bitterness of defeat together. The game ends in victory for the players if they manage to complete all tasks before the threat scale is filled.
