Tales and Stories for Children

The great empress of the largest country in the world, and… a writer of fairy tales? It is hard to imagine Catherine II as a caring grandmother — but it is said that a talented person is talented in everything! For her grandchildren, Catherine composed fairy tales, wanting not only to entertain the future sovereigns but also to teach them a life lesson. These were the first literary works for children in Russia, whose main characters were also children. Today's boys and girls are unfamiliar with these tales: children of the 21st century find it difficult to understand the language of the 18th century. That's why we are presenting them for the FIRST TIME to young readers in a modern Russian language that is close to us. In addition, the book includes some little-known fairy tales from collections of the Catherine's time, as well as didactic stories and instructions composed by the empress. A wonderful addition to all this is the illustrations — classic works of Russian and European painting and masterpieces of Russian book graphics.
