In the village of Chinabro, a recently arrived inquisitor dies under very strange circumstances. A woman nicknamed La Vecchia is accused of his death. Many locals hate her, and the case seems straightforward, but the accused behaves too unusually during... the interrogations, telling an extraordinary story despite the torture and inquests. She cannot be easily dismissed, for according to legends, dragons once lived here, and they still sleep underground, which is why there is vermilion in the local mountains, a miraculous mineral capable of curing all ailments and granting immortality. At least, that’s what people say. However, only nearby pagans, who call themselves enlightened, can extract it, and the inquisitor's death is somehow connected to all this. Versions multiply, reality struggles against the unknown, and the truth slips away. Perhaps the dragons have already awakened, and now it is unclear who is in greater danger: the accused or her executioners.
