Arkham Horror. Card Game: Path to Carcosa. Investigators
About the game:
"Arkham Horror. Card Game" is a cooperative Living Card Game set in the Lovecraftian mythos, where 1-2 investigators (and with the second set – 3-4) will together explore the world of occultism, ancient gods, and mysteries while also battling their inner demons from the past. Each player takes on the role of one of the investigators and builds their own deck based on their character's abilities. The gameplay revolves around interconnected scenarios that set the pace and create an artistic narrative. Games in this setting are incredibly atmospheric! The set of scenarios transforms into a campaign. In each scenario, investigators find themselves in various locations and explore them in search of clues necessary to advance the investigation and uncover secrets.During the game, investigators encounter opponents and curses, attempt to overcome various hardships, and defeat the enemies of the Mythos. Throughout the campaign, each investigator gains experience, allowing the player to improve abilities and gain new opportunities by adding stronger cards to their deck. The further and deeper you delve into the unknown world, the closer your madness gets! Players must keep an eye on their investigators' sanity, protect them from the horror and monsters encountered along the way, and uncover the mystery of Arkham!
About Lovecraft:
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890, in Providence, the capital of Rhode Island – the smallest state in America. His father was traveling salesman Winfield Scott Lovecraft, and his mother was Sarah Susan Phillips, an excessively caring and seriously ill woman. As the future master of horror from Providence grew up, he was likely troubled by his mother's illness and the shadow of death that hung over the house. The world of his obsessive fantasies took shape slowly but surely. Initially, he was an amateur journalist, engaging in extensive correspondence with other writers, and only later began to create on his own.Characteristic grim imagery typical of Lovecraft emerged in his very first mature story – "The Tomb." However, the Cthulhu Mythos arose only in 1926, when the writer created a cosmic pantheon of nightmarish monsters that would immortalize him among posterity. The spirit of decay and decomposition permeates Arkham, Dunwich, Innsmouth, and Kingsport – dark cities of degenerates, madmen, and wicked individuals. Lovecraft's stories and novellas are dark and hopeless. Few of his peers managed to achieve such flights of imagination and so masterfully create an inexpressible atmosphere of horror and helplessness in the face of the ancient...
How to play?
Players control the actions of their characters using their investigator decks. Scenarios lead the campaigns, offering a fascinating adventure. Each round begins with the Myth phase. In this phase, a horror token is placed on the agenda card, and each player draws a card from the contact deck. If there is a curse on the game card, a skill check is performed as indicated on the curse, and if you fail, a negative effect is triggered. If there is a monster card, it attaches itself to the investigator, who must either fight it or try to slip past it.Next comes the Investigation phase, where players take turns performing 3 actions from the available options in any order:
Draw a card:
Obtaining resourcesActivating an action from a previously played cardSummoning a monster to themselvesAttempting to evade a monsterAttacking a monsterAttempting to gather cluesMoving to another locationPlaying a card from hand for resourcesAfter players' turns, the Monster phase occurs. There are many different opponents; some enemies move towards the heroes, while those that have already caught up attack, automatically inflicting horror and wounds on the investigators. At the end of the round, the Rest phase takes place, during which all players draw a card and gain one resource.
Who won?
Since the game is team-based, all players win or lose together. Players advance through the scenario and reach the climax. Some of them are more favorable and can be counted as a victory. Others leave the investigators in difficult and dangerous positions. Specific moments and consequences are directly related to the specific scenario.LCG – Living Card GameSuch games deviate from the traditional model of Collectible Card Games and use a method of fixed card distribution in sets. LCGs possess all the advantages of CCGs: they are as dynamic, diverse, and evolving as those games, but they eliminate the need to navigate a wide variety of expansions and rely on luck when acquiring cards from boosters. You can always diversify and improve your gaming experience by purchasing expansions that have a fixed card composition, meaning there are no boosters or random cards.Note! This is an expansion. You will need the base version of "Arkham Horror. Card Game" to play. Also, pay attention to another set from this cycle: "Path to Carcosa. Investigators".
