O. Henry (William Sydney Porter) — an American writer of the early twentieth century. He gained fame through his short stories, which invariably included an element of surprise: an unimaginable plot twist, an incredible resolution, a fantastical turn of events. O. Henry found his stories in the streets and bars, in conversations with workers, vagrants, and clerks — he readily listened to everyone he met along the way. O.
