How to Love a Child

«My life has been difficult, but interesting. This is exactly what I asked God for in my youth» — these words were recorded by Janusz Korczak in his diary in 1942, while in the Warsaw ghetto. In the same year, the famous children's writer, doctor, and educator, founder of the legendary Orphanage, along with his wards (about 200 children), perished in a concentration camp in Treblinka. In 1942, Janusz Korczak turned sixty-four; he was widely known for his original views on the principles of raising a child, which he actively and quite successfully implemented. The foundation of his educational system was a very simple idea: a child is a full-fledged person, entitled to their own opinions and their own attitude towards the surrounding world. Janusz Korczak wrote: «Whoever reflects on the soul of the words used by people will erase the difference between a child, a youth, and an adult, between an ignoramus and a thinker…» This edition includes the main pedagogical works of Janusz Korczak, in which readers will find both valuable practical recommendations and captivating stories and reflections on the problems and joys associated with growing up and self-determination.
