BASED ON A CULT SERIES FILMED IN JAPAN.
The author is a recognized master of the iyamisu style, exploring the dark sides of human nature. This is one of the main directions in modern Japanese detective fiction.
Five schoolgirls were playing volleyball near the school pool. A man approached them and asked for help checking the ventilation in the dressing room. He chose one of the girls and took her away, while the others simply continued playing. Realizing that their friend had been gone for too long, they went after her. And with horror, they saw her dead body…
No matter how many times the girls were interrogated, they could not remember the face of the killer. Then the mother of the deceased gathered them together and accused them of her daughter's death. She said: "I will not forgive you until you find the murderer. If you cannot do this, find another way to atone for your guilt that I will accept. If you do neither, I tell you here and now: I will take revenge on each of you".
And the lives of the girls turned into a nightmare for many years…
This novel strikes at the heart, making one seriously reflect on the responsibility for the actions we have taken — or, conversely, have not taken, which turned out to be even worse…
