On the City of God

Aurelius Augustine - Christian theologian and philosopher, the most influential preacher, Bishop of Hippo, one of the Fathers of the Christian Church. The first ten books explain the reasons for the inevitable fall of paganism, while the last ten books describe the future triumph of God's righteous. Augustine views the entire history of humanity as the coexistence of two realms: the higher "City of God" and the sinful "earthly city," where one is destined to "reign with God eternally," and the other "to suffer eternal punishment with the devil."
