This book is the story of writer-historian Gennady Sokolov about the secrets of the famous "scandal of the century" - the case of British War Minister John Profumo. Back in 1963, the assistant to the Soviet naval attaché, Yevgeny Ivanov,... who worked mid-century at the court of the King of Norway and then Queen of the United Kingdom, became the holder of devastating compromising material. At risk was the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, his nephew, the Marquess of Milford Haven, the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, Lord Astor, half a dozen members of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan's cabinet, including the military ministers - John Profumo and Duncan Sands. On the other side of the ocean, a similar trap ensnared U.S. President John F. Kennedy, his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy, the Ambassador to London Sir David Bruce, and his entourage. The basis of the narrative is the personal archive of Yevgeny Ivanov, whose heir became his friend, the author of this book; materials collected from the archives of various countries, eyewitness accounts, interviews with veterans of special services, as well as direct participants of the historical events described in the book. The writer dedicated three decades of his life to the search, collection, and study of these documents and information.
