The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

"Hamlet" is the most famous play by Shakespeare. Andrei Chernov and the publishing house "Nestor-History" offer a new annotated translation of it. The action on stage echoes the facts of Shakespeare's biography and the historical realities of the late 16th... century — the execution of Mary Stuart, the revolution in the Netherlands, the war with Spain. The play became a warning to the Scottish King James VI. By refusing to take revenge for his mother's death, the king prevented a civil war between England and Scotland. A hypothesis is put forward about the poet's visit to Denmark in 1590 and the staging of "Hamlet" at Kronborg Castle at the wedding of James VI and Anne of Denmark.
The first edition of A. Yu. Chernov's translation was published in 2002. The translation was first staged by Dmitry Krymov at the Moscow theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky.
