The reader opens a memoir by the famous theater and film actor Veniamin Smekhov, dedicated to the author's 80th anniversary. The book contains eight chapters, devoted to eight decades — from 1940 to 2020. This book is about travels: through... years and cities, through performances and films, and most importantly — it is a book about theater — a beautiful and terrifying place where people work not on machines, but on their own bodies.

Since his youth, the author has been caught up in a whirlwind of theatrical events, incidents, and meetings with fragments of the past, and in adulthood, he managed to travel around half the world.
