Anna Grigorievna Dostoevskaya (1846-1918) was, as she herself said, of a different nature, of a different type, with differing views from her husband, but they always remained themselves, not mirroring or copying each other. Fyodor Mikhailovich, who thought so much... and so lonely about the profound questions of the human soul, likely valued this non-interference in his emotional and intellectual life, and so sometimes said to me: You are the only one among women who understood me! (that is, what was most important to him). His relationship with me always constituted some kind of solid wall, against which (he felt this) he could lean or, rather, rest against. And it will not let him down and will warm him.
