This is an old oak tree. Its name is Red. However, for many years it has been called the Tree of Wishes. Every year on the first day of May, people tie pieces of paper and fabric to the branches... of the oak, on which they write their wishes. Trees cannot tell jokes. What they do well is tell stories. But trees have a rule: never to talk to people. One winter, a new family settled in a tiny blue house under the shade of the old oak's branches. One night, a little girl tied a piece of cloth to Red that read: "I want to have a friend."
