John Stuart Mill can boldly be called one of the first feminists who dared to declare to 19th century England about the "legal subjection of one sex to another": in 1869, his book "On the Subjection of Women" was published....
However, three people participated in the creation of this work: Mill's wife Harriet Taylor Mill, her daughter Helen Taylor, and John Stuart himself. Harriet Taylor Mill, an English feminist, wrote on socio-philosophical topics; her ideas formed the basis of the book "On the Subjection of Women". However, only John Stuart's name is indicated on the cover. Perhaps they together with his wife and stepdaughter thought that the thoughts of a philosopher-feminist would be listened to more than the arguments of women. Almost 150 years later, many ideas of the authors remain relevant; they continue to be interesting and in demand in the 21st century society.
This edition is accompanied by an introductory article by Olgerta Kharitonova, a candidate of philosophical sciences and curator of the School of Feminism.
