John Stuart Mill can boldly be called one of the first feminists who dared to inform 19th century England about "the legal subordination of one sex to another": in 1869, his book "On the Subordination of Women" was published. However,...
three people participated in the creation of this work: Mill's wife Harriet Taylor Mill, her daughter Helen Taylor, and John Stuart himself. Harriet Taylor Mill, an English feminist, wrote on socio-philosophical topics, and it was her ideas that formed the basis of the book "On the Subordination of Women". However, only John Stuart's name appears on the cover. Perhaps they, along with his wife and stepdaughter, thought that the thoughts of a philosopher-feminist would be taken more seriously than the arguments of women. Almost 150 years later, many ideas of the authors remain relevant; they are still interesting and in demand in 21st century society. This edition is accompanied by an introductory article by Olga Haritonova, a PhD in philosophy and curator of the Feminism School.
