"A duel can and should only take place between equals" - this is how the code of Count Vasily Durasov begins, published in the early 20th century. However, dueling for honor has existed since the time of Peter the Great,... even though duels were prohibited by law. The ritual is outlined in Russian literary works: seconds, choice of weapon, barrier, steps, "advance", "fire". Duels are an important cultural code of the higher classes and the culmination of beloved tales and novels.
