The author balances, we see both naturalistic - with a drenched chestnut seller, powdered street women, with a dirty and exhausted fishmonger - stories, and short poetic ascents to Baudelaire's "Prose Poems". J.-K. Huysmans preserved for us images of a disappearing world, depicting the landscapes of Paris and its surroundings, where a chilly, tired look is visible.
