Order of the Yellow Woodpecker

In Brazil, Monteiro Lobato is known as a serious public figure. He was a lawyer, a trade attaché at the Brazilian consulate in the USA, and later devoted himself to modernizing the Brazilian economy. Who would have thought that such... a busy person would find time to write books for children? However, during his lifetime, Monteiro Lobato became a classic of children's literature, and his "Order of the Yellow Woodpecker" is the most beloved book of children in Latin America and beyond. While creating this story, he remembered his childhood, his grandfather's country house, where a stream with cheerful fish flowed through the garden, and around it was a tropical forest, where jaguars probably lived. And there was also a library with storybooks, the heroes of which later quietly made their way into Monteiro Lobato's book.
The Order of the Yellow Woodpecker is a secret society founded by a girl named Lucia, nicknamed Nosey, and her brother. It includes a rag doll named Emilia, who was taught to speak by Doctor Snail, and a piglet named Rabiko (actually, a cursed marquis), and the great scientist Don Cucuruzo, made from an ear of corn. Adults could also join this society if they believed that Prince Silver Fish and an escaped circus rhinoceros might come to visit them, and that dolls could talk and even write memoirs. However, soon Lucia's grandmother and her old nanny will find out that real miracles can happen in life.
