"Encyclopedia" – is a board game with a fairly low entry threshold, so that even the least experienced board gamer can master it, while the depth of gameplay remains at a high level. Beautiful illustrations that adorn literally every component...
of the game will allow players to feel the entire atmosphere of adventures and feel like true naturalists. Try to collect the most unique collection of animals and gain recognition from the entire global community!
By the way, in this box, you will find not only the base game, but also the mini-expansion "Fossil Animals".
A game of "Encyclopedia" lasts for 6 rounds, during which players perform various actions by placing dice on the game board. Starting with the first player, participants draw 4 dice from the bag, then roll them to determine the value of each die, and place them in any order on their personal board, keeping the rolled values unchanged. After that, the action phase begins. There are several actions in the game, and each can be performed more than once:
- Visiting the embassy
- Visiting the bank
- Visiting the university
- Visiting the academy
- Sending an expedition
- Publishing research results
To perform any action, you need to place a die in the corresponding cell on the game board.
To ensure your expedition goes as successfully as possible, don't forget to stop by the embassy to receive expedition tokens. Depending on the value of the placed die, you can receive 1, 2, or 3 tokens. The color of the die does not matter.
If an expedition is not sponsored, it is doomed to fail. By placing a die in the bank, you will receive 5 coins. Neither the color of the die nor its value affects the number of coins received.
Supporting minds is just as important as financial support. By placing a die in the university, you will receive an expert card. Experts have various instant bonuses that can be applied at any moment during your turn. The value and color of the die do not matter, but if the die color matches the expert card color, you will also receive an expedition token.
Before going on an expedition, gather preliminary data on the animal you wish to study. By placing a die in the academy, choose an animal card – it is added to your collection and becomes available for study. The placed die must be the same color as the chosen card (you cannot place a red die and choose a blue card). You will also earn from 1 to 3 reputation points depending on the value of the placed die.
Now that you have defined the objective of your journey, it's time to observe the animals in their natural habitat. On the animal map, the parts of the world where they live are marked, so that's where you need to go. To do this, place a die in the expedition area that matches the required part of the world. Don't have the right color? No problem: expedition tokens obtained from the embassy will allow you to change the die's color to what you need. The die's value can be anything, but the higher it is, the more studies you can conduct if several animals from your collection inhabit that part of the world.
Now, when you have a wealth of information about animals, share it with the world! Place a die on the animal map to publish the information you wish to share. The colors of the die and the animal card must match.
An important aspect of the game is that players have access to all the dice in the game, not just those on their personal boards. That is, if you need a die of a specific color with a certain value, and it is only available on another player's board, you can take it from there, but that player will receive a certain bonus depending on the cell where the die was placed. Thus, during the dice distribution phase, you can already analyze the actions of other players in the previous rounds and anticipate whether any of them will need your dice to place them on cells with the most advantageous bonuses for you.
When no player has any dice left on their boards, the round ends. The dice are returned to the bag, and the process of distribution is repeated.
Who won?
Players will earn reputation points, which are victory points, for completing various tasks and conditions, as well as for publishing research results. The naturalist who earns the most reputation points will become the most renowned researcher in academic circles alongside Count de Buffon himself!
