The characters are only happy in a country where the Israeli heat, the foreign linguistic environment, where people earn their bread by any means—the music teacher publishes a political-literary magazine, and the writer washes the floors in offices in the evenings, where at night the sounds of gunfire can be heard, and sons are taken away to the army.
