Alexander Suvorov

Can we say something new about the generalissimo, who stands among the first military leaders in the world? The author believes we can. Indeed, while some called the Prince of Italy, Count Suvorov of Rymnik half-wild hero, bloodthirsty Attila and... vandal, others considered him the Rembrandt of tactics, a wizard of war, and the savior of Europe. But who was this legendary commander really? Based on archival documents and the memories of his contemporaries, V. S. Lopatins reinterprets some well-known postulates, convincingly demonstrates the untenability of a number of proliferated legends, and analyzes the relationships of A. V. Suvorov with his outstanding contemporaries— in particular, with the most illustrious Prince G. A. Potemkin, Empress Catherine the Great, and Emperor Paul Petrovich. This allows the reader to see the great commander in a new light, to gain a deeper understanding of his life and activities, and of the role that Alexander Vasilyevich played in Russian and world history.
