The Call of the Wild

Almost 122 centimeters - this is the height of the stack of written rejections from various publishers, collected by American writer Jack London in the first five years of his creative activity. But then came the story of the domestic dog Buck, who by chance ended up from a southern paradise to the harsh north.

The book sometimes seems to be told from the dog's perspective - so accurately and in detail does the writer convey all the nuances of what is happening. It is no coincidence that readers remain on the side of the main character until the very last page. In his native mansion, Buck lived a "life of a satiated aristocrat". It was replaced by a life full of deprivations, pain, and hardships as the leader of the dog sled team. And we have to answer one of the most pressing questions ourselves: what is more destructive for a strong nature? Perhaps this is a question that from time to time each of us should ask ourselves.

The novella "The Call of the Wild" brought its author worldwide fame. The book continues the mini-series of Jack London publications with illustrations by Vladimir Kanivets. The realistic, detailed works of the artist beautifully convey the contrast between the icy silence of the North and the burning emotions of the characters. Readers highly appreciated the previous books in the mini-series ("The Tale of Kishi. Stories" and "White Fang").
