Prose of Stray Dogs. Volume 1

A boy named Atsushi Nakajima is expelled from an orphanage, and thus he finds himself in Yokohama without money or a roof over his head. Atsushi is in such despair that he decides to rob the first person he meets.... However, he has a kind heart, and instead of robbing, he saves the life of a drowning man whom he sees in the river. This man turns out to be one Osamu Dazai – an eccentric employee of the so-called Armed Detective Agency. At the moment, he and his comrades are searching for a mysterious man-eating tiger that is instilling fear in the local residents. Atsushi himself has suffered from this tiger, so he agrees to help Dazai in the search. Soon, he meets other employees of the agency, where each one is stranger than the last.
