Roly-Poly Toy

A roly-poly is a traditional toy for babies who have learned to sit. The roly-poly is good because it is a self-teaching toy: the baby does not need help from adults to play with it. When the baby touches the roly-poly, it sways slightly; if touched harder, the toy sways more; if pushed really hard, it seems to fall, but it gets back up again. This way, the baby discovers how to play with the roly-poly. The purpose of the roly-poly: The roly-poly toy develops the child's fine motor skills, expands their vocabulary with words that denote parts of the face and body, and provides an understanding of the predictability of actions.
