One thousand years ago, Earth was destroyed by the Gauna race - giant, virtually invulnerable aliens. "Sidonia" is one of the interstellar city-ships where the surviving humans wander through space in search of a new home. At the same time,... the inhabitants of "Sidonia" have to fend off attacks from the Gauna - for this, special robots, the Guardians, have been created. Nagate Tanikaze grew up in the abandoned lower levels of "Sidonia". By chance, he ended up at the top and was discovered by the military, who noticed his talent for piloting combat mechanisms and assigned him to pilot the "Tsugumori" - an old model Guardian.
