1890, the town of Old Mission, USA. Joseph is only twelve years old, but he has lost everyone he loved. The only thing left in the world for him is his horse Sara. One day Sara is taken by a man who had no right to do so, and Joseph decides to get his horse back, no matter the cost. He will only take his father's revolver and his own courage. Neither the wild nature, nor an encounter with a she-bear, nor rafting down an icy river will stop him. Joseph will have to make difficult decisions for which he will bear responsibility for the rest of his life. The rare courage he possesses will help him save a Chinese boy in trouble and become a support for a sick woman. And ultimately find a new family.
